Birth fathers can play an important role when choosing private adoption. Birth Mothers may want their birth father’s involvement and support throughout the adoption process.  Having a birth father be involved in their adoption journey may help her feel less alone. Some birth fathers may not be able to provide as much support as they’d like, however they can help guide the birth mother to the resources she needs. Some examples of support a birth father can provide may include driving her to her appointments, working with the adoption office or adoption center, helping pick an adoptive family and providing emotional support.

When beginning an adoption journey, it’s important that the birth father knows his adoption rights. The adoption center or adoption agency can assist the birth father with his legal rights and responsibilities for the state in which the birth mother resides in. It is important for a birth father to understand what his adoption process limitations may be when giving up a baby privately, this will ensure that the birth father understands the adoption process and the birth mother and birth father’s adoption journey can go as smoothly as possible.
