An unplanned pregnancy may leave you riddled with many questions. You may be exploring your options, including adoption, and still have questions about how it works. Understanding the adoption process in Arizona can help you make the right decision.

AZ Pregnancy Help/ Building Arizona Families can help you with that. We have been helping birth mothers since 2004. Our adoption team will guide and assist you in understanding all the steps so you feel more confident making an empowered decision.

Whether you are considering parenting or thinking of placing your baby for adoption, this guide will help you get a clearer picture of the process and ease the uncertainty.

Learn About Your Options

Adoption is not the same for everyone. As a birth mother, you can choose a plan that feels right for you and your baby during pregnancy and after adoption.

If you are considering adoption, you can take time to think about:

  • Whether you want to opt for an open, semi-open, or closed adoption plan
  • If you want to maintain ongoing contact with the adoptive family
  • Updates you would like in the future
  • Your level of involvement in the process

Build an Adoption Plan

Once you feel ready, we help you create your adoption plan. Remember, each pregnancy journey is different, and your plan will reflect your needs and wishes. You will work with a dedicated adoption worker to assist you with the process.

The plan may include:

  • What type of adoptive family do you envision for your child
  • Deciding your level of contact after placement
  • Outlining your preferences for hospital experience and more

Remember, you are not alone. Our adoption professionals are always available to guide and support you.

Support During Pregnancy

As birth mothers, you will receive support throughout your pregnancy. The goal is to help you feel safe and supported.

Support may include:

  • Emotional support and counseling
  • Financial assistance for essential needs
  • Assistance with hospital visits and appointments
  • Help create hospital plans that reflect your wishes

Choose An Adoptive Family

Next, you can review the profiles of waiting adoptive families. You can take your time reviewing and choosing a family that matches your expectations for your child.

For those placing your baby for adoption, this step helps bring assurance, making it a meaningful part of your journey.

Support After Placement

You will work with an adoption specialist, who will guide you through each phase of the adoption process. Once the baby is born, you sign a consent form for adoption.

Support After Delivery

Your adoption support does not end after you place the baby for adoption. Instead, you will continue to receive support, including counseling and guidance, up to 6 weeks after delivery.
