When a pregnant woman in Arizona chooses newborn adoption and is working with our licensed adoption agency, labor and delivery are always discussed.  Labor and delivery can feel like a frightening time, but with the right preparation, can actually be an exciting time. Babies come into the world one of two ways: natural or cesarian section (sometimes referred to as c-section). Some birth mothers have a planned c-section, and some have a c-section that arises from medical need during labor.

AZ Pregnancy Help Educates Women About Their Labor and Delivery Choices

A cesarean birth happens through an incision in the abdominal wall and uterus (americanpregnancy.org). The standard cesarean procedure averages 45 minutes to an hour. The baby is usually delivered in the first 5-15 minutes, with the remaining time used for closing the incision. C-Sections are common. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provisional data from 2019 (released May 20, 2020) show that 31.7% of all births were by cesarean section. Sometimes women who have had a previous c-section elect to have another one, and sometimes there is a medical reason why the doctor prefers or requires you to have a c-section.

The American Pregnancy website cites ten main reasons for having a Cesarean Section that include:

  1. Placenta Previa
  2. Breech Position
  3. Cord Prolapse
  4. Fetal Distress
  5. Cephalopelvic Disproportion
  6. Diabetes
  7. Preeclampsia
  8. Birth Defects
  9. Multiple Births
  10. Active Genital Herpes

Newborn Adoption Arizona

Making a Hospital Plan in Preparation for a Newborn Adoption in Arizona

Our licensed Arizona adoption agency will guide you through your hospital plan. When making a hospital plan, if you will have a scheduled c-section, you can completely detail how you want everything to go. Usually, when having a c-section, you can have one support person in the operating room with you. Sometimes birth mothers choose the birth father, a family member or friend, the adoptive mother, or the adoption caseworker.

Some other benefits of having a c-section when placing a baby for adoption are:

  1. Newborn Adoption ArizonaYou can plan around the dates of your c-section; if you are working, you can notify your job of when you will deliver. You can get things accomplished that you want to have achieved before delivery without worrying about when you will deliver.
  2. The adoptive family can plan to be in town if they come from another state, rather than trying to catch the next flight out.
  3. You have more time (for recovery purposes) in the hospital, which gives you more time to bond with the adoptive family and see your baby if that is part of your hospital plan.
  4. You won’t have to worry about being pregnant past your due date.
