I work at AZ Pregnancy Help/Building Arizona Families Adoption Agency.  My best friend Michael, was adopted at the age of 13 years old. In Colorado, he lived with his mother and his sister. He recalls his mom was always working to provide for him and his sister. So, he started to get involved with the wrong crowd. He recalled that it became a cycle of trouble at school and trouble at home. Between that and stricter immigration laws, his mother decided to leave Colorado for a new life. Michael was adopted by his uncle and his wife and moved to California.

Michael talked about how merging into a new family was difficult for him. His new family showed love and affection, and he wasn’t used to it. They celebrated holidays, and he got to experience his first real Christmas. He always speaks highly of them. They have a special bond, and he was lucky to be placed with them.

Additionally, Michael maintained a strong relationship with his biological mother. He is in the Air Force and unable to see family whenever he wants, but he makes sure to call her multiple times during the week. His adoption helped grow him into the man he is today. He is someone I am proud to call my best friend. Michael is the reason and my motivation for the work I do in adoptions.
