Will adoptive families want to adopt my baby …

If I have smoked during my pregnancy?

If I have used drugs during my pregnancy?

If I have a mental illness?

If I am incarcerated?

If I have consumed alcohol during my pregnancy?

If my baby has been diagnosed with special needs?

YES to all! There is always a “right” family for every adoption situation. It is the adoption agency’s role to help you find that special family that will adopt your baby.

Adoptive Families Are Waiting To Be Chosen By A Birth Mother Just Like You!

Many, many adoptive families are open to adopting a baby that has been drug-exposed in utero. The most important thing you, as a birth mother, can do if you are using drugs during your pregnancy is to let your adoption specialist know. Many, many adoptive families are open to adopting a baby whose birth mother has smoked during her pregnancy. Smoking during pregnancy is not uncommon, especially among our clientele. Many of our birth mothers have smoked cigarettes and used drugs during their pregnancy. Lots of adoptive families are waiting to be chosen by a birth mother just like you!

If you have a mental illness, it is essential to disclose that to the adoption agency. That information will be passed along to the adoptive family, and the medical knowledge will be an asset if there comes a time where the child may need mental health assistance. Mental illness can be genetically passed down from a biological parent to a biological child. However, it may not be passed down, or a child is diagnosed with a mental illness without any history. Most mental illnesses have varying degrees, and with a more severe diagnosis, medication and counseling may be an additional level of support.
